The Company

Cognex is the global leader in the exciting and growing field of machine vision. With over $900 million of cash in the bank and no debt, we are a financially strong international company with a culture that maintains the fast paced, creative environment of a startup. Our employees, proudly called “Cognoids,” take their work seriously, but don’t take themselves seriously. Our Work Hard, Play Hard, Move Fast culture recognizes our employees for their innovation, perseverance and hard work in a fun, rewarding, and quirky environment.

The Job

You will join our growing team of content developers working at multiple EU and US sites. In addition to developing high quality documentation, you will help us define the tooling requirements for our next generation of user assistance for web-based Machine Vision applications, and you will take the lead in architecting and implementing this new tooling platform.

Our users range from factory technicians and application developers to sophisticated engineers and scientists. Our products range from smart vision sensors and easy-to-configure vision systems to advanced 3D image formation systems and Javascript and C# programming libraries.

Your work will be informed by your use of our current authoring platform (MadCap Flare) and CI/CD pipeline (Git and TeamCity). You will develop and deliver beautiful, accessible, accurate, high-impact documentation that helps our customers use our powerful 2D and 3D machine vision systems to guide robots, automate inspections, solve problems, and transform industries.

  • You will work closely with the UI/UX design team, web content team, and product teams to understand and improve the user assistance experience.
  • You will help to support and manage our CI/CD pipeline, and you will lead the process of developing and growing our tooling and publishing platforms.
  • You will work closely with the software algorithm, hardware, and optical development teams to understand the capabilities and internals of our current and next-generation 2D and 3D machine vision software and hardware.
  • You will work as part of the documentation Scrum team. You will create and refine stories related to infrastructure and architecture, and you will manage your work through our normal sprint cadence.
  • You will use Git for version control.
  • You will have the opportunity to create both written and visual content using a variety of authoring tools including MadCap Flare, Creative Cloud, and SolidWorks Composer.
  • You will manage documentation projects, working directly with product stakeholders and supporting the work of other writers.
  • You will help lead our PR-based peer-review process.
  • The Environment

  • You will work with marketing, product development, and content development teams in Europe and the US.
  • You will move fast, creating content for technology as it is being developed. Your work will be seen and used immediately. Your work will be in customers’ hands inside your first 3 months at Cognex.
  • You will work directly with designers and developers, and you can expect your input to be listened to and acted upon.
  • You will work with engineering, product marketing, and field teams, but this is an engineering role in the engineering organization.
  • You will use Confluence wiki as your primary internal documentation platform, both for obtaining design and engineering information, and for creating and sharing internal documentation.
  • You will work closely with our UX team to help design and refine user experience for our products.
  • The Candidate

  • Your English proficiency is at the C2 level or better.
  • You have three to five years of content development experience in a technical/enterprise product space.
