IDC’s European Intelligent Business Execution Practice is looking for a SENIOR RESEARCH ANALYST to help develop, articulate and drive the research of IDC’s core European Intelligent Process Automation research program.

This role presents an opportunity to expand IDC’s recognized thought leadership in the broad business automation, AI and analytics space. IDC is looking for a research analyst who can help innovate and create new thinking around, for example, the impact of AI, cloud, low-code tools, and market consolidation on business automation and integration technology and adoption.


The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the Practice by:

  • Leading and growing IDC’s market-leading research into business automation and integration technology market trends.
  • Defining the overall research coverage of business automation and integration topics based on your knowledge and feedback from customers and communities.
  • Publishing thought leadership research papers on various business automation and integration topics, highlighting the implications for vendors and enterprise organizations.
  • Providing insightful and relevant comments on industry relevant events, particularly the impact of business automation and integration trends on related markets (including analytics, AI, business applications, BPO services, ITSM, ITOM, application development, security, and more).
  • Being a ‘face’ of IDC’s coverage of business automation and integration in Europe, presenting at IDC and external events and webinars.
  • Leading or supporting the delivery of market intelligence briefings.
  • Being a trusted advisor to the Practice’s research clients.
  • Working with IDC’s quantitative market sizing and forecasting team, as a contributor to market definition, sizing and forecasting deliverables.
  • The successful candidate will also be required to contribute and take ownership of custom research papers, respond to client enquires, collaborate on cross-domain research documents and support the sales and marketing teams on business development initiatives.


    This position calls for a highly motivated individual with outstanding communication, presentation and writing skills, allied to good numeric and analytic skills. We seek a quick and creative thinker with deep curiosity relating to the developments in the IT market, someone who is happy to work as part of a team or alone depending on project size.

    These capabilities will ideally have been developed over the past 3 to 5 years in industry roles focused on writing about and / or advising clients on business automation, integration or software development topics.

    The ideal candidate will come from an analyst, consulting or industry background, though candidates with relevant IT industry journalism experience will also be considered as strong contenders.

    The successful candidate will be someone who can demonstrate:

  • A solid understanding of the current and future business automation and integration challenges and strategies that organisations are dealing with, and the understanding of the technology dynamics associated with these challenges and strategies.
  • Ongoing analysis of relevant industry developments, supplemented by a carefully cultivated network of contacts.
  • A degree level qualification: BA, BSc or equivalent or higher degree.
  • Excellent presentation and written communication skills, and the ability to write and deliver content to deadlines. Fluency in written and oral English is required. Fluency in a second European language would be advantageous.
  • The role will involve some travel, predominantly in Europe but occasionally to other regions.
