Programme Officer, Central Europe Programme

The Prague Civil Society Centre seeks a Programme Officer to join our newly established Central Europe Programme.

The Prague Civil Society Centre is a non-governmental organisation which supports and empowers independent media and civil society across Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia. We believe that independent media and civil society are key drivers of social change, and we work to ensure they have the flexibility, connections and tools to play a leading role in the development of the region. In the face of difficult conditions, we emphasise creativity, innovation and technology as the cornerstones of a sustainable and diverse civic ecosystem.

The Central Europe Programme will initially focus on supporting independent media to increase their competitiveness and financial independence by providing grants and technical assistance that would enable outlets to experiment with new revenue streams, reach new audiences and deploy new products. We expect the second phase of the programme to expand to provide support for Central European civil society organisations in addition to independent media.

About the Position:
The Programme Officer will be responsible for implementation of all activities and grants within the programme, and will be in regular communication with partners.
He or she will assist the Head of Central Europe Programme in all aspects of programme and strategy implementation.
The Programme Officer is expected to develop his/her expertise in media and civil society in Central Europe and to track developments in these sectors as well as political developments impacting the sectors.

Primary Tasks & Responsibilities:
Coordinating activities of the programme including the complete grants cycle (publishing calls, collecting applications, taking part in evaluations, managing awarding procedures, evaluation of project proposals and undertaking regular oversight and impact assessment of awarded projects)
Coordinating activities within the mentorship component of the programme, including regular communication with experts providing mentorship services
In close cooperation with the Head of Programme and a small programme team, contribute to the development of the portfolio by identifying new partners and new thematic priorities
Working with partners to develop their skillset and capacities
Conducting monitoring visits to the grantees and research in the field
Representing the Central Europe Programme at relevant meetings and events
Building and maintaining relationships with international and regional organisations

Key Requirements:
Strong interest and understanding of political and social trends in the region of Central Europe and direct in-country experience in Central Europe is required
University degree in human rights, political science, sociology, public policy, media studies, relevant area studies or other related discipline
At least 2 years of experience of relevant work in the media sector, civil society organisations, or other relevant sectors
Substantive experience with project management, grants administration and reporting is a plus
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Hungarian (fluency in both languages required)
Excellent skills in MS Word and Excel

The role is full-time (40 hours per week), located in Prague, Czech Republic

The Centre can provide relocation assistance to successful candidates if needed (details can be discussed at the interview stage).
Preference will be given to candidates who already have permission to work in the Czech Republic.
