Lead Engineer – Core Software – Automotive – Contractor

Job Summary

Eaton is looking for a Contractor Lead Engineer – Embedded Software, who will focus on Embedded SW development primarily in Automotive domain. This position will perform conceptual design, architecture, development, testing and validation of embedded software, firmware, applications and its integration for industrial applications. As a member of a global team, this contractor will help with requirements and will contribute to a definition of system hardware design, design embedded system software and control algorithm solutions, up to and including certification, product launch and with further product development satisfying customer and market needs. This includes also support of development processes.

Job Responsibilities

Defining conceptual design(s) and architectures. Designing and developing embedded software, firmware, applications.

Defining embedded system level and software requirements to meet product performance, safety and reliability requirements.

Develops and performs validation and verification test plans at a unit, sub-system and vehicle level to fully validate requirements.

Working with team members and engineering manager to estimate development, resources and timing to achieve the desired results

Collaborating with global, new product development teams from initial conception through each of the design and development phases up to and including certification and product launch for various applications in automotive domain

Developing new and advancing existing development, verification and validation processes and tools to improve efficiency, safety and quality

Interface with stakeholders. Conduct project reviews and make presentations.

Manages documentation of all development activities. Interfaces with internal and external resources as appropriate.

Position requires up to 10% travel domestic and international.

Qualifications

Education level required

Masters degree in Electrical Engineering discipline, or related, from an accredited university.

Years and area of experience required

7+ years of related engineering experience in Embedded SW development or relevant engineering discipline

Experience with industrial systems, but ideally with vehicle systems etc.

Large experience in embedded software development (C, C++, Matlab, Simulink, …)

Experience with developing new processes and increasing development efficiency

Technical knowledge

Very good embedded SW development in C/C++

Strong familiarity with MBD and Matlab/Simulink

Knowledge of SW Configuration Managment tools like IBM Rational ClearCase

Industrial communication knowledge – CANbus, J1939, RS485, etc..

Embedded HW knowledge – IN/OUTs, COMMS, MCUs

Good knowledge of industrial functional safety norms (IEC 61508), ideally Aero / Vehicle (ISO26262, DO 178,..)

Experience in, or knowledge of drivetrain/powertrain systems and components

Understands and experience in innovation processes.
