Health, Safety & Environmental Director

The Health, Safety & Environmental Director is responsible for providing strategic HSE direction as part of our ESG agenda to continually improve HSE performance. Our vision is to eliminate on-the-job recordable incidents, protect employees’ health, minimize environmental impact, and ensure effective product stewardship.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, enhance, and drive the Garrett comprehensive HSE Management System
  • Drive improvement in site personnel safety performance through strategic assessment of gaps versus world best practices including capability and competence, procedures, and equipment; develop programs to close the gaps
  • Develop KPIs and auditing plans appropriate for our sites and consistent with best practices
  • Partner with Operations and Engineering leadership to prioritize, resource and execute gap closure activities
  • Ensure that site environmental and operating permits are compliant, and develop strategies to anticipate regulatory changes that require new actions by the company
  • Ensure up-to-date knowledge of product stewardship regulatory requirements; ensure active review process with forward look at coming regulation
  • Develop, deploy, and implement environment sustainability programs in line with Garrett’s ESG agenda
  • Direct management of a central global team and indirect management of the global network of site HSE leaders (25 sites)

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Science or a related field from an accredited university is preferred. Master’s or other advanced degrees are preferred
  • 8 – 10 years’ experience in HSE or a related field, demonstrating progressive leadership capabilities
  • Site HSE leadership position (early in career)
  • Professional qualifications and status desirable in one or more of Health, Safety or the Environment (e.g. CSP, CIH, CMIOSH, CMFOH, CEnv, CEP or equivalent)

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Ability to lead the HSE function across a global organization
  • Proficiency to drive HSE excellence across many countries, sites and cultures driven by an understanding of risk management
  • Knowledgeable about how to deliver global consistency in HSE performance across a range of legal jurisdictions
  • Experience in assessing and implementing effective management systems, policies and procedures that best meet the business needs
  • Very good proven track record in people management and development
  • Understanding of the fast-changing environmental regulatory landscape and best ways to leverage external resources to ensure license-to-operate
  • Thorough understanding of the key role of CULTURE in HSE excellence and how to mobilize business leadership to reach and sustain a World Class culture
  • Working knowledge in product stewardship requirements and how to ensure product documentation and regulatory requirements are always anticipated and met
