We’re currently on the hunt for a proficient Backend Datbase Engineer, one who will work their magic on everything that powers our platform. The role would be ideal for someone who is up to date on big data solutions. Crunching the data is key, but we’re also on the lookout for someone who can use their creativity and intelligence to extract the maximum value from it, and to create the tools and processes to support this where necessary.

A little about our tech and dev processes

  • Data processing facility built using AWS services such as Kinesis, EMR, Glue, S3, RDS, Lambda, API Gateway, Athena, ECS + ECR, QuickSight, Redis, MongoDB and DynamoDB
  • AWS Terraform AutoScaled infrastructure
  • Unit/integration tested
  • Git – properly defined Git branching model, merge requests and CI/CD on GitLab
  • Dev process that puts developer needs in the spotlight
  • Jira for project management, configured to follow the Git branching model
  • Docker for local development environment
What you’ll be doing

  • Creating data processing and analysis solutions for internal and external use
  • Providing intermediate data reports for further usage in BI tools
  • Providing reports on demand
  • Integrating data from various sources into a data warehouse
What we expect from you
  • Knowledge of Python
  • Excellent knowledge of SQL language and relational database engines such as MySQL or PostgreSQL
  • Knowledge of at least one MapReduce data processing framework such as Hive or Presto
  • Strong attention to detail and sound analytical skills
  • The ability to work in a fluid, fast-paced, entrepreneurial and results-oriented culture
  • Bags of passion and drive, and a genuine desire to make things bigger and better

  • The ability to juggle a number of things at once and deliver to tight deadlines
  • A proactive attitude towards solving problems
  • Superb organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with Hadoop based projects 
  • Knowledge of AWS services such as S3, RDS, Lambda, Kinesis, Glue, API Gateway, EMR, Athena, ECS + ECR
  • Knowledge of Spark
  • Knowledge of at least one BI tool such as QuickSight or Tableau
  • Experience with a data warehousing solution such as Snowflake or Firebolt
  • Experience with ElasticSearch
  • Experience with Amazon Redshift Spectrum
  • Knowledge of PHP and Doctrine ORM
